The number of excellent coworking spaces in Kigali is growing rapidly. With the city continuing to attract startups and businesses – and the shift to remote work post-Covid – the industry is set for a bright future.
So, whether you’re a solo remote worker, a scrappy startup, or a digital nomad passing through for a couple of months, here are my favourite coworking spaces in Kigali.
Impact Hub
- Location: KN 41 St, Kiyovu
- Phone Number: +250788544203
- Website: kigali.impacthub.net/
- Open on the Weekends? Closed on Sundays
I’ve worked at many Impact Hubs around the world, and always find them great for comfortable productivity, networking events, and meeting interesting, inspiring people.
Impact Hub Kigali is no exception. The coworking space has a relaxed ambiance, friendly staff, plenty of quiet workspaces, and a thriving community of social impact-focused startups and solopreneurs.
Waka Town
- Location: KN 72, Kigali Town
- Phone Number: +250783189029
- Website: www.wakaglobal.com/
- Open on the Weekends? Closed on Saturdays & Sundays
Waka Global is a pair of community-focused coworking spaces. The Kigali Town branch is hugely popular, modern, and spacious, with a mix of private offices and shared workspaces.
But what makes this the most unique coworking space in Kigali is the fitness centre. Waka Town has one of the best gyms in Kigali – including a team of highly qualified trainers and a climbing wall – as part of its coworking complex.
And if that wasn’t enough, there’s a great coffee shop serving delicious brews from early morning into the evening.
Waka Kimi
- Location: KG 674, Kimihurura
- Phone Number: +250786601749
- Website: www.wakaglobal.com/
- Open on the Weekends? Closed on Saturdays & Sundays
Unfortunately, Waka Kimi is currently closed due to Covid-19 restrictions. Hopefully, it will open again soon, and we’ll update the guide as soon as it does.
Westerwelle Startup Hauz
- Location: KG 622, Rugando
- Phone Number: +250789402033
- Website: kigali.westerwelle.haus/en
- Open on the Weekends? Closed on Saturdays & Sundays
When I visited Westerwelle in November 2020, I was honestly very disappointed. I found the shared workspace gloomy and dark – not exactly welcoming. A day pass was expensive, and the lunch menu at their in-house restaurant was grossly overpriced. I was waiting 20 minutes to connect to the wifi, and had to sign a stack of paperwork.
Also, the place was totally devoid of any atmosphere. So, I left and worked from a cafe.
However, it was in the midst of the pandemic, and I know that Westerwelle is a popular spot amongst Kigali’s startup and tech community, especially for events. So, I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt. Hopefully, once life gets back to some kind of normal, so will Westerwelle.
Imizi Workspace
- Location: KN 80, Kiyovu
- Phone Number: +250788424430
- Website: www.imiziworkspace.rw/
- Open on the Weekends? Closed on Sundays
Okay, full disclosure, I’ve not worked from Imizi Workspace yet, so I can’t recommend it from personal experience. However, it’s highly recommended on our Facebook community and has lots of glowing reviews on Google.
So, go ahead and check it out for yourself, and leave a review in the comments below.
Coworking Cafes in Kigali
If you don’t feel like joining one of Kigali’s coworking spaces, or you need to work on the weekend, there are plenty of great laptop-friendly cafes around town.
Here are my personal favourites:
Question Coffee, Gishushu.
Shokola Cafe, Kacyiru.
The Women’s Bakery, Remera.
Rubia Coffee Roasters, Kimihurura.
Pure Africa Cafe, Kimihurura.
Java House, Kigali Heights
Inzora Rooftop Cafe, Kamukina.
