Indian Restaurants in Kigali

Kulfi E-Malai, Khana Khazana, Kigali

People I’ve meet in Kigali tend to generally be pretty laid back. It must be something about the beautiful hills and perfect weather that leaves us wandering around in good moods. But if you dare ask the question of which is the best Indian restaurant in Kigali, beware! The opinions will fly fast and furious, allegiances will be drawn, arguments will be had, punches will be thrown, and friendships will be lost. Ok, perhaps the last two are an exaggeration, but it’s serious business, my friends. We’re all very lucky to live here because Kigali has some of the best Indian food I’ve eaten anywhere! So, with all of this in mind, this article could be controversial but I hope it’s useful, especially if you’re still open-minded in your search for great food.

Best Restaurants for Steak in Kigali

Beef Arlequin, New Cactus, Kigali

If you’re looking for meat, this is the post for you! I love a good list article, and this was an especially tasty one to write. The number of excellent restaurants in Kigali has been growing over the years, with plenty of very good places popping up since I arrived in 2010. It sort of boggles the mind to think about the choices we have in this city these days. Back in 2010 I could probably only name a couple of restaurants where I would dare try the steak – probably due to regularly being disappointed by the quality of the cut of meat.

Best Views in Kigali

Ubumwe Grande, Best Views in Kigali

Kigali never fails to amazing me with how beautiful it is. Whether it’s walking around the city’s hills in the hot sun, zipping around town on a moto as the sun sets, or having a cocktail at some restaurant as the stars sparkle at night, it’s a stunning place. Even when it’s chucking it down with rain it still somehow manages to be magical. The skies seem so big here and you can often see the weather rolling in or out which is amazing to see. It’s less amazing when it’s rain and you’re on a moto… but it still manages to impress me!

Rwanda on the Internet

Rwanda on the Internet, Kigali

I try to keep Living in Kigali updated with super fantastic information about all things related to the city, but man oh man, it’s hard to keep up! Luckily there are a variety of online resources at our disposal that aim to inform people about this great city on a variety of topics. Facebook groups are active, Rwandan services and government are very responsive on Twitter, and there are a plenty of informative and useful sites out there that will be helpful to Kigali residents.

On Solitude in Kigali

Morning Walks, Solitude in Kigali

I’ve spent quite a bit of time waxing poetic on the power of community in Kigali, as well as all the available social options our favorite East African city has to offer. From happy hours to quiz nights to art galleries, it’s pretty easy to meet people. In fact, it’s actually pretty difficult to spend time alone while living in Kigali. Co-workers, roommates, friends, and neighborhood kids, as much as we all love them, can all be pretty hard to shake – especially for those days when you just need a couple hours to yourself. Check out our guide to getting some solitude in the land of a thousand hills.

Eggs to order, crispy bacon cooked into oblivion just as I requested, excellent sausages, beans, grilled tomato, mushrooms, and toast. It’s a massive meal and I think it’s a bargain at Rwf 8,000.
