Volleyball at Mamba

Volleyball Mamba Kigali

When: Sunday afternoons
Venue: Mamba
Cost: Rwf 1,000 per player

Volleyball has to be at the top of my list of most hated sports. I think I’m just envious because I’m too much of a short-ass to be able to spike it over the net and it has left me deeply bitter. Plus I suck at it.

But if you’re someone who likes leaping around in the sand and having balls flying at your face (…no comment) then head to Mamba in Kimihurura on Sundays. Mamba is down the road a bit further from Africa Bite, not far from Sundowner and Papyrus. Moto drivers seem to know Africa Bite… just get them to continue a bit further down the road and you’re there.

The games are casual and all you need to do is show up and join in. It costs Rwf 1,000 per player and you can play for as long as you want. The gang who play here regularly are nice and friendly and it’s a great way yo meet some new people, get some exercise in and enjoy the chilled out Sunday Mamba atmosphere. There’s a good mix of Rwandans and expats and it’d be a good way for new arrivals to the city to find some friends.

If you’re not into volleyball, Mamba also has a basketball court, a swimming pool (mostly packed with kids, though) and plenty of grass to stretch out on. It makes a nice place to chill out on a sunny weekend.

About Kirsty

A Canadian who left in 2001 to wander around the world in search of sun, beautiful views and goat brochettes. Found Kigali in July 2010 and it seems like the perfect fit. I expect to be here until I get kicked out for defiantly walking on the grass while wearing flip flops.
