Karaoke at Car Wash

Karaoke Car Wash, Kigali

Car Wash no longer hosts karaoke but you can find Carole at other venues around town. Check out our events and activities calender to see where you can find her.

I’m going to come out and say straight away that I’m not a big fan of karaoke. I don’t hate it but I don’t really like it, either. Given a choice, I would prefer to drink beer at a place where cheesy songs aren’t being murdered through a booming sound system. But that’s just me. Having said that, I actually sort of enjoy Thursday night karaoke at Car Wash. I like the place and, more importantly, I like Carol the karaoke MC Extraordinaire. She’s got a great voice for all the between filler songs and she’s fun and friendly.

Karaoke at Car Wash took a break while the bar was being refurbished and only recently re-opened. In the old days the karaoke setup was interesting, to say the least. Carol roamed inside a small u-shaped bar, jostling for position with the bartenders while wannabe singers fought with patrons on bar stools for position. The TV screen with the words was small and tucked away, there was only one mic, and the supporting music was sometimes provided by computer tones. Not an ideal setup… but it had character and Carol made it work.

It seems like the bar wasn’t the only thing refurbished and, these days, the karaoke is a professional operation complete with two mics, proper backing music, a big screen with the words and free vodka shots for people who sing! The downside is that, if the singer needs to read the words, they’ll have to have their back to their audience… unless they’re comfortable roaming all around the bar which is also an option.

I’ve always liked Car Wash. The food is good and the outdoor seating is great for those nice Kigali nights. Throwing a bit of karaoke into the mix makes for a nice way to spend a Thursday, especially if you and your friends are into it. It’s a great setup and a good night out.
