Hillywood is back for another year of movies from all over the world playing all over Kigali and Rwanda. Last year’s event was excellent and very popular with great setups at the Manor Hotel and Select Hotel and at various other locations around the city and country.
This year’s festival runs from Saturday, July 21st (with an opening gala at the Serena Hotel) until Friday, July 27th with a showing of student films and an awards ceremony and showing of the documentary ‘Rwanda 17 – Healing of a Nation’ at the Manor.
There’s a lot of good stuff packed in in between so be sure to download the week’s programme.
Most events are free except for at a few of the venues on some nights. I couldn’t find any info on this but I’m guessing that opening and closing night cost at least Rwf 5,000.
Venues include the Serena Hotel, Kigali Memorial Centre, the Hillywood Cafe and Kwetu Lounge (both located in Gacuriru), Maison de Jeunes de Kimisagara (no idea where this is), the Ishyo Arts Centre/Goethe Institute (in Kacyiru next to Shooters), Le Chateau (not sure where this is), and the Manor Hotel (which was an excellent venue last year).
Films run throughout each day, usually starting at around 6:30 or 7pm. Plan accordingly and enjoy some movies in Kigali!
